چکیده

tion in nmol/L and x is the year of collection). In the autoclaved cards, 17-OHP concentrations were 27.3% lower than in the native cards: median (25th–75th percentiles), 5.6 (3.6–8.9) nmol/L vs 7.7 (5.3–11.1) nmol/L; P 0.001. Thus, 17-OHP in dried blood spots on autoclaved or native filter-paper cards decreased 2–3% annually, and the decrease was significant on native cards but not on autoclaved cards. However, given an interassay CV of 8%, this small decrease may be unimportant for interpretation of samples stored for a few years. If samples are kept for a decade or more, however, it may be wise to correct for the loss, certainly at the expense of an increase in the error of estimate. Thus, in a moderate climate such as in Middle Europe, 17-OHP is basically stable in native or autoclaved filter-paper cards stored at room temperature over a prolonged period. The stability of 17-OHP on filter paper for up to 1 year has been ascertained in previous studies (5, 12). Similarly, progesterone has been shown to be stable in filter paper for 15 weeks at 25 °C and for 9 weeks at 37 °C (13 ). Steroids are known to be stable in serum stored at 25 °C for up to a decade (14 ). We conclude that 17-OHP estimates in dried blood on native or autoclaved filter papers stored for more than a decade can reliably be used for retrospective examinations and population studies.

Association of Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase (MTHFR) Gene C677T and A1298C Polymorphisms with Myocardial Infarction From North of Fars Province

Background: The association between Methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase polymorphism and Coronary Artery diseases risk has been both confirmed and refuted in a number of published studies. The aim of this study was to investigate whether genetic polymorphisms of MTHFR (C677T, A1298C) contributed to the development of myocardial infarction (MI). Materials and Methods: The present case-contro...

Impact of Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase C677T Polymorphism on the Risk of Gastric Cancer and Its Interaction with Helicobacter pylori Infection

Background: Attempts for early detection of gastric cancer have recently focused on host's genetic susceptibility factors and gene-environment interactions. We have, herein, studied the association of MTHFR C677T single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and its interaction with Helicobacter pylori infection, smoking, age and gender on the risk of gastric cancer among an Iranian population. Methods:...

Additive effect of MTHFR and GRIN1 genetic polymorphisms on the risk of schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is a complex disorder with polygenic inheritance. The MTHFR gene (OMIM: 607093) plays an important role in the folate metabolism. It has been suggested that C677T (rs1801133) and A1298C (rs1801131) genetic polymorphisms in the MTHFR gene lead to the decreased activity of the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase enzyme which may have significant effect on developing schizophrenia. W...

Are polymorphisms in MTRR A66G and MTHFR C677T genes associated with congenital heart diseases in Iranian population?

Background: The 5, 10-methyleneterahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) and methionine synthase reductase (MTRR) are two essential enzymes involved in folate metabolism. The relationship between genetic polymorphisms and congenital heart defects (CHDs) is inconsistent. Our aim was to investigate the association between two well-known polymorphisms of MTHFR and MTRR genes, C677T and A66G, respectively,...

The Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 (G>A) and 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase (C677T) Gene Variants and the Serum Levels of Insulin-like Growth Factor-1, Insulin, and Homeostasis Model Assessment in Patients with Acne Vulgaris

Background & Objective: To find an association between gene variants of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) with the risk of acne vulgaris (AV). Methods: In a case-control study, we investigated 150 AV patients and 148 healthy individuals (aged 18-25 years) for the IGF-1 G>A and MTHFR C677T polymorphis...
